The Eumundi Magpies FC is a not-for-profit member-based and community-orientated Club located in Eumundi, that commenced operating in 2019, participated in formal competitions as a Club in 2020 and was incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Association in 2022.
In the initial stages it was called Soccer-Roots Academy, which with its slogan 'discovering with fun the foundations of the game', provided soccer sessions to boys and girls between 5 and 7-years of age, from the Eumundi State School and the wider community.
We are a Club that provides fully practical and fun based soccer sessions, where coaches encourage the players to not only learn the basics or improve their abilities, but to discover the foundations of the game in a friendly environment. The players shall learn skills that would make them not only a good athlete or football player, that can kick the ball around, but one that understands the way we should play this sport.
The sessions develop technique, the principles of the game and very important, a love for this sport.
Soccer, in essence though, provides the following benefits:
- Keep fit and healthy
- Improve gross motor skills
- Boosts self-confidence and self-esteem
- Increases social interactions
- Promotes cognitive development
- Involves teamwork
- Increases focus and attention
Players at EMFC receive:
Advanced training in the game, high skills development through practical games and learning, supportive coaching and mentorship, all within a fun and friendly environment.
We also believe in practising soccer (or football as we some know it) in an environment with support from parents/caretakers/guardians; therefore, we require at least one responsible person with the player during the sessions.
We invite you to also come along with other friends and relatives for extra support to your player.
Be a leading, sustainable and unique Club, that provides opportunities for anyone that wants to learn, improve and grow their soccer skills through quality coaching, within a supportive community of parents, volunteers and supporters.

2019: Coach Fern, after coaching soccer to children in Sydney, found that when moving to Eumundi this type of session training for young players was not available, so decided to found SOCCER-ROOTS ACADEMY. With the support of his family, neighbours, friends, community and local school, he commenced to offer Saturday morning soccer sessions to children with the ages of 5 to 8.
2020: After seeing the progress of the players and the necessity for some to show their skills in a competition, Coach Fern decided to register the first ever team at the Sunshine Coast Futsal Association Tournament. The name given to this team was the Eumundi Magpies FC. He recruited the first ever players, continued the training in the school hall, organised the first black and white kits, asked for support from local businesses to act as sponsors, and played the competition.
The Black and White continue from the patterns of SOCCER-ROOTS ACADEMY, which are the main colours of Coach Fern's favourite soccer team in Chile: Colo Colo.
The Magpie was chosen because it is a common black and white animal in Eumundi.
The logo was done by a parent and sponsor, who helped with the design and the formation of the club.
2022: After the success of our participation at the Tournament and other players wanting to join, Coach Fern gathered a group of parents and together worked towards turning the Club into a not-for-profit incorporated association. A committee was formed, a structure was put in place, rules were created and since then we have offered competitive and non-competitive soccer opportunities for our players.
2023: Our Club strengthen its non-competitive soccer sessions through the Mini-Magpies program, which is for players that are either learning or are still not yet ready to compete; and its competitive soccer, which is for players that are eager at competing.
2024: Our Club expanded to include outdoor soccer opportunities through the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association. In this debut season we entered 39 players through 3 teams: U8s mixed, U10s Boys and U11s Girls. The response from parents, players and the community was overwhelming.
2024: Our Club officially settled its Clubhouse at the Eumundi Showgrounds and Sports Complex, where they conduct some of their training sessions, committee meetings and social gatherings.
The Club has also agreements with the Eumundi State School and Noosa District State High School, in order to conduct their training sessions.
